Kampala is a city that is safe and interesting to explore at night. Go clubbing, see a film, hear some live music or enjoy a show at one of Kampala’s world-class theatres and local events.
With an array of restaurants, casinos, discotheques, bars, cafes and theatres, Kampala night life is vivacious, exuberant and vibrant. It is also ripe for an introduction of neo-medieval banquets, cabaret comedy, mummery and cockney entertainment.
At a time when many out-of-town people seem to be scurrying for transport to go home, city dwellers begin to revel with delight in many bars, restaurants, cinemas, casinos and other happy nooks that are spread over Kampala.
One problem that these people have is to choose how and where to go and while away the evening. Kampala is a very beautiful and interesting city at night that is as well glittery and attractive. The general view of the city from any high spot is simply panoramic. There is a wide choice of joy spots where one may spend the early hours of the night and not regret any minute of it.

The five-star Sheraton Kampala Hotel is just one of these and it offers bar facilities with a wide range of drinks. The Victoria, Crane Gourmet and Lion Restaurants feature sophisticated food of continental and Ugandan dish types. Local musical groups and bands once in a while go all the way to entertain the patrons here while barbequed chicken, goat and beef are a specialty. Transport to and from any part of the city may be arranged.
Let the Music Play
Little Flowers, Bat Valley on Bombo road is an Indian owned joy spot that usually hosts live shows of foreign-based and local music stars, the majority of the former come from francophone Africa. Apart from live music entertainment, patrons may be treated to beef, chicken and goat muchomo. Bar facilities are also available with a wide range of drinks, soft or otherwise.
Another place that needs mentioning is Hotel Equatorial on Plot 37/39 William Street. This three-star hotel is home to a resident band that entertains visitors and patrons on Wednesdays, Fridays and weekends on the Garden Terrace. The music tends to an instrumental, with an African lyrical Afro-Caribbean beat. Bello’s bar among others offers its services to the needful.
Fairway hotel that is opposite the Kampala Golf Club on Kitante Avenue is also ideal for a memorable time in the night; more so now that the Afrigo Band is resident here. Apart from the more obvious offering of accommodation, Fairway is expedient with skill in as far as offering grilled goat, chicken muchomo, soft drinks, wines and spirits; African music and cultural performances are concerned.
Discotheques & Clubs
Night life in the city would be an incomplete affair without mention of the numerous discotheques and dancing arenas that are home to many a disco goer.
Ange Noir Discotheque, located on plot 77A 1ststreet Industrial area is an ideal place with a variety of new and old music played with different emphasis on different days. to and through the weekend excelling with African, Zouk, Soca, Reggae, Ragga and calypso.Ange Noir is home to all the latest hits, modern machines, spinning disco lights and giant video projections that keep patrons and visitors entertained all through the night.
Pulsations Club is another discotheque in the heart of Kabalagala opposite the new Shell Petrol Station a five minute drive from the city centre. As an ultra fashionable and trendy place, it plays a variety of music that includes among others Caribbean, rap, ballads and house beats. One can also have a quick bite from Tina’s Take Away.
Horizons club is another place of entertainment located on Nkrumah road adjacent to Uganda Cooperative alliance. It boasts of the best dancing hall and their music includes hip hop, swing and reggae.
Horizons has a special jazz night for those who love jazz . It is furnished with big mirrors that give it a heavenly and romantic atmosphere. Crystle’s Take Away in vicinity offers quick dining services.
Club Silk
Not forgetting to make mention of another interesting discotheque in town, Club Silk located on 1st street Industrial area next to the New Vision. It boasts of a faddish sophisticated dancing arena camouflaged between bars that offer a variety of drinks and just like Horizons, Thursdays are jazz nights.
Paris Club,Wandegeya, is an exciting rendezvous for people who enjoy instrumental music with an African tint especially in the evenings. The Big Five Band that plays here from Friday to Sunday is very addictive. Though the place is small, there are no inhibitions here.People are free to dance whenever and wherever they are. Soft drinks, beer, wines and chicken muchomo are on avail here.
The Nile Grill on Uganda House Arcade plot 10 Kampala road is a relatively peaceful and quiet place especially in the evenings. This place is an ideal rendezvous for couples, dates and businessmen after a days work, more so now that the newly created Simba Band hasbegan to play from here. The Nile Grill offers items on both the a’la carte and table d’hote menus. It also has a wide range of snacks and drinks that include sodas, beer, wines and various spirits.
Note should be taken of other numerous and relatively small joy spots that make night life in Kampala a very special one. These include Lions Hotel found on plot 18 Namirembe road with a very quiet and peaceful ambiance, Club Sparrows and Half London in Kansanga offering a wide range of dishes featuring Italian, Swiss, French and local specialties. Among other cold drinks they serve, the latter are vintners of French, Australian and South African wines.
