Uganda Crafts 2000

Uganda Crafts was formed in 1983, in June 2000 it became a private organization and was renamed Uganda Crafts 2000 Limited. It is the oldest and biggest craft shop in Uganda. The purpose of forming this shop was to financially assist the disadvantaged members of the society like disabled and widowed women and their families.

It is a certified fair trade organization which works to support people with disabilities and unemployment. The organization markets the crafts for the artisans and provides training in quality control, design and marketing.

Uganda Crafts 2000 Limited has turned into major tourist attractions whereby locals and tourists come and purchase souvenirs and gifts for their family and friends and in the end support fair trade practices.

This place is renowned for exceptional hand made baskets but also sell a variety of craft items like batiks, jewelry and paper products. On every Friday the local artisans bring their work of art and gather outside of the small office of Uganda Crafts. They come carrying their work from the week which includes a collection of beautiful baskets, handmade jewelry or musical instruments.

Uganda Crafts also owns a retail store where they provide employment to people with physical disabilities. Their future plan includes building Uganda Crafts Village which will be used mainly to teach youth with disabilities about income generation. It is a highly successful organization working with its members and helping them produce hand crafted products, assisting in promoting and selling their products through channelized marketing.
