Must See Things in Kampala

The Kasubi Tombs – Muzibuazaala-Mpanga

The traditional royal burial tombs of Kabakas (kings) of Buganda situated 5km from the city center on Kampala/Hoima road. The late KabakasMutesa I, Muwanga, Daudi

Chwa and Mutesa II were buried here. This historical site was once the place of Buganda Kingdom. Muzibu azaala-Mpanga is a magnificent round thatched building 14 metres in diameter.

The Uganda Museum

A display of Uganda’s cultural heritage and a vivid reminder of the country’s colorful past.

Namugongo Uganda Martyrs Shrine

The Namugongo Uganda Martyrs ‘shrine is a historical and religious site where 20 Christians were burned alive in 1886 on orders of the king of Buganda. It is 12 km north-east of Kampala.

The Parliament Building

The Parliament Building is the seat of the government of Uganda and a symbol of the country’s independence that was attained on 9^th October 1962 from the British. In 2012, Uganda celebrated 50 years of independence (the Golden Jubilee).

Namirembe Cathedral

The St Paul’s Namirembe Cathedral is the seat of the protestant church (also refered to as the Anglican Church) in Uganda. It is the largest church for the protestant faithful in East Africa and has a great history worthy listening to while on a Kampala tour.

Lubaga Cathedral

The Lubaga’smagnificent St Mary’s Catholic Church is found on Lubaga hill, another historical hill overlooking the Kabaka’s palace in Mengo. This architectural building is one of the oldest buildings in Uganda and is the seat of the catholic faith in the country.
