The heights of your self drive Uganda trip will only be forgotten when you are enjoying your vacation in Uganda. Usually, travelling requires a lot of advance decisions to be made for both enjoyment and security reasons for the self drive holidays
You are advised to leave your valuables at home. Usually too many items often burden travelers with additional responsibility and this increases the possibility of your valuable items getting lost or being stolen. Take note that usually car rental agencies and insurance do not always cover the items of the clients or travelers.
In traveling by an airplane, it is very important that you think ahead because airports are located in very large and unfamiliar cities can be difficult to find like Entebbe International airport of Uganda which only has one main road access. Always prepare that in advance to avoid being disappointed when going on a self drive holiday in Uganda national parks for special activities like Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi and Mgahinga National parks. Do not explore the beauty of Africa on a self drive holiday and usually the traffic around airports can also create very serious delays. You should pack all your suitcases the night before the date of your travel. You should also get yourself completely ready to go the night before your travel trip.
You are advised to take clothespins when you travel. As you might not think of then as soon as possible, clothespins can perform many functions mostly when you are going on a safari which entails camping. You will be required to have a reliable camping gear
Do not forget to tip housekeepers and bellboys. Usually, the bell boy should get a bare minimum of about of $1/bag, while the housekeepers should get at least a couple of dollars a day , to ensure that the people in charge of your service are very happy and helpful during the time when you drive yourself within Uganda, while passing through dirty roads and exploring the beauty on your own adventure on self drive holidays. Do not save as much space using the travel size toiletries and when you run out, the local stores will often charge more for the products that you need to replace. You should try simple folding and packing tricks to expand your luggage space instead and this could save you serious space in your luggage.
You should get sleeping pills which will help you get through along flight. Usually for many people, sleeping on the plane is almost impossible between the uncomfortable seats and the noise level. A sleeping pill may be just what you need to go to sleep quickly and make it through your flight without any problems. Therefore, you should not take these prior to takeoff, as there may be a delay or problem that requires a return. When you stay awake until about 8 pm local time, it will help you adjust better in the new time zone. Even though you may be tired, it is usually best not to go to bed early so you do not exacerbate jet lag. When adjusting the local time, it is the best way to defeat the effects of jet lag.
When you are travelling quite a great and long distance from home, it not usually necessary for a fun getaway. You should enjoy the stay by visiting attractions in your local area of Uganda Like the gorilla trekking activity in Bwindi and also do explore other primates with Great Apes within the country. Usually, you travel expenses can be lower in case you support local businesses by staying close to your home. There are also often many undiscovered attractions close than you think.
You should come along with plenty of bottled water when travelling out of the country. Usually, the water you will find in other places or countries may not be safe as it can cause different sicknesses. To have bottled water, it is important even for tooth brushing purposes. You are advised to have bottled water as you may get ill by using tap water.
You should stretch your legs once per hour or more when you are on along flight. During this time, you can do this by walking to the restroom and even if you do not have to go, sitting for hours is bad for your circulation and for you might experience pain in your legs if you do not stretch. In case you are going to travel, make certain that you have made copies of all your important documents. You should place different copies of your documents with a friend or family member. We as a car rental agency shall not pay for the stolen items.

For whatever reason you may have for hiring a car in Uganda, you must have to ensure the car you are hiring suits your purpose. It is rational to select the right vehicle for the right price other than going for a cheap car that does not fit your purpose. It is recommendable to always check the specifications/description of the various groups of cars on the car hire agency website and choose the ideal car for your travel before you make any reservation of a car hire.
Each particular car displayed on the car hire website normally have a range of different models of which these models may differ when it comes to the gear transmission, the spacing of the seats and the cabin and also the wheel drive. So it is best for you to choose a car that handles the journey you are going to take and also look at the number of people you are traveling with to select the car with the specifications that complies with your nature of travel. Remember when you book online it is guaranteed that you are going to end up with the exact car you see on the website so it is important for your to tell the car provider the specifications of the car that you will need in terms of size and also gear transmission. This can make you come close to getting the exact car that fits your purpose of travel.
For instance if you’re a four people wishing to hire a car for travel and each of you has a suit case then a large car like a Toyota land cruiser would be your ideal car to hire or sometimes you may need a passengers’ carrier like a Toyota super customs. However on the other hand if you are a two people wanting a car for few days then a crossover car like a RAV4 would be ideal since it is economy but incredible good for Uganda safaris.
If you wish to drive the whole journey by yourself then it is ok not to purchase of ask for extra driver option. But it is recommendable to always put it into consideration of requesting for an extra driver option when you are taking a wildlife safari in Uganda since it will take a long distance to reach the national parks in Uganda so you need someone to help you out like a colleague you are traveling with so that you do not get over worn out by the driving.
You should also consider renting a car that brings comfort and ease to your passengers, in most cases those traveling with infants. Most car rental agencies hire cars with a extra baby seats, headrests both DVD and mp3 players which can keep your people relaxed and at the same time having fun on the road.
Furthermore, car rentals do not have to be ordinary and boring; why not get yourself a classy ride? Like a Toyota Land Cruiser whether for a vacation tour, safari tour or a business to make a good impression, there are car rental agencies that have luxury cars for hire in Uganda
Finally, If you are renting a car in a foreign land that you do not have clear bearings of then consider requesting for a GPS that can help you on getting to the destination with ease other carrying a lot of maps and also asking the need by local people to direct you to the destination. The former is very stressing and tiresome. The GPS give proper direction since they are always up-to-date and also give clear instructions of the directions and routes that can lead you to the exact destination.

If you are traveling to Kampala, Uganda, you can find a rental car in Kampala or at the airport. Entebbe airport near Kampala has experienced relative growth in the past twenty years due to the increasing number of tourists to the area/country. As a result of such growth, there are now more Kampala car hire companies operating at or near the airport. A car hire is the best and most convenient transportation, especially if you plan to visit some of the other popular tourist hotspots such as Kasubi Tombs and the Bahai temple. However, there are a few things you should consider when making your car hire arrangements.
Consider the size of the vehicle you will need. For example, if you are traveling as a couple, an economy size car such as a Rav4 should be sufficient allowing you to save money on the rental rate and the fuel. If you are traveling with a larger group, you may want to look at the larger vehicles available. But, if you are trying to save money, a compact or economy size car would be a good choice if the comfort level for those traveling permits.
You should also check on your insurance needs. You may already have coverage with you insurance, a credit card or other service. Do not assume this is the case, but it is something to check on before adding the additional cost of insurance to your rental cost. It could save you between five and ten dollars per day, which can quickly add up.
When comparing the package rates, you will find that the rates for an identical vehicle vary among companies. It is important to look at the basic rates and the additional fees. Some proposed rates are inclusive while others charge for extra charges such as insurance, airport taxes, mileage and additional drivers. Be sure to identify what exactly is included with the rate. If you are not sure, you can call the car hire company and ask the clerk to calculate a final estimate including the additional charges.
Making the car hire reservation in advance will help you get a better deal as well as the car you want. Waiting until the last minute, or especially upon your arrival to the airport, will result in a higher rate and fewer vehicle choices. During the busier seasons, you may not have to worry about the cost because there may be no cars available. Once you find a car hire package and make the reservation, be sure you get the quote in writing and get a confirmation number. This will help you avoid paying a higher rate when you pick up the car and, generally, avoid headaches and just enjoy your trip.
To rent a car, you will need proper documentation including your driver’s license, proof of insurance and a credit card. You should determine in advance which credit cards are accepted as well as any minimum age requirements. Many companies have age restrictions for drivers of the vehicle, which could include not only the primary driver but also any additional drivers. Always inspect the vehicle before leaving and note any minor damage, such as scratches or dents. All noted damages should be included on the rental agreement to avoid you being charged later. If possible, you may even want to consider taking pictures of the damaged surface as evidence.

Car Rental Uganda – Beware of Hidden Fees
Everyone is trying to make and save as much money as they can right now, and rental companies are no different. Transportation is one of the worst hidden fee industries in the world! Rental companies and airlines will charge you an arm and a leg in hidden fees if you’re not careful. Wahabu Kazibwe of 4X4 Uganda Car Hire shares with us some of the hidden fees that many renters are not aware of! The list below should help you avoid some of these fees and keep your rental cost as low as possible.
Airport Surcharge
Rental companies don’t get to take up an airport’s parking lot for free. They have to pay the airport for the services it provides. The rental company recoups its costs by charging its customers. The easiest way to avoid this fee is to rent from a location away from the airport. Many rental companies will even given you a free ride from the airport to their nearest facility.
Fuel
Always check your fuel policy and follow it. If you show up without the amount of gas you’re required to have, you’re going to have to pay for the difference in gas. The rental company gets to set the price of gas, which is a lot more than the gas station just down the street from the company. Fill up shortly before returning your vehicle to avoid excessive fuel costs.
Sales Tax
This isn’t really much of a hidden fee. You can’t avoid it. But many people forget all about sales tax and wonder why their bill is higher than they thought. Don’t forget sales tax when configuring the overall price of your rental.
Under Age Fee
If you’re under 25, you may be charged extra for your age. The reason for this is because statistics have shown that people under 25 are much more likely to get into an accident. If you’re under 21, you’ll be lucky if a rental company will rent a vehicle to you at all. So make sure you check the company’s age policy before signing anything.
Early Return Fee
Returning your vehicle early may sound good for all parties involved, but many rental companies will charge you a fee for returning the vehicle early. They do this to recoup the cost of you reserving the car beyond its use. Honestly, their justification is rather weak, but they can charge what they want. You might as well hold onto the car until the end of your rental period even if you don’t need it.
Limited Mileage
Most companies offer unlimited mileage rentals, but some will sneak in mileage limits and charge you a fortune for going over those limits. Make sure the rental company you want to rent from doesn’t have a limited mileage policy. If they do, go somewhere else.
In Case of an Accident while driving a hired vehicle
Various clients normally get accidents while driving rented cars. An accident is bound to happen at any given time but the way you handle yourself after this tragic moment is what makes a difference. Below is what should you do if you get in an accident while driving a rental vehicle?
Keep Calm
Getting upset or argumentative isn’t going to help the situation. Crying over something that’s already happened gets neither of you anywhere fast. So keep calm, recognize whatever part you had to play in the accident, and let the officer decide who’s at fault if you two can’t agree.
Collect All the Necessary Information
For minor accidents, police may not even need to be called onto the scene. Regardless, you should always get the other driver’s license, insurance information, and plate number. Also, make not of the exact time of the accident. You should always have a paper trail for every accident you’re ever in just to be legally secure. Plus, the rental company will want to know who else was involved.
Contact the Rental Company
Don’t wait to tell the rental company when you’re returning your vehicle – call them immediately. Ask what steps you need to take to resolve the issue with them and if any fees are going to be added to your final bill as a result of the accident. Each company is different, as is each accident situation. Follow what the rental company says and you’ll be alright.
File an Accident Report
If you have time, call the police and have them come out, assess the situation and write up an accident report at the scene. However, you should still file an accident report even if you don’t have time for that. It’s better for you to file your own report than someone to file a report that involves you. Not reporting makes you look suspicious.
Keep a Copy of Your Receipts
It can’t be stressed how much money this tip could potentially save you. The world economy is down and everyone is looking to save/make every dollar they can. The possibility of you being sued after an accident, by either the other driver or the rental company, is higher than it’s ever been. Keeping a copy of your receipts will give a paper trail that backs up your claims in court. It also gives you a leg to stand on if the rental company tries to charge you extra later for the incident. So make sure you hold onto a copy of everything you can.
