Muyenga hill famously known as a residential hill for the Middle & high status people in Uganda ,stands 4,285 feet (1,306 m) above sea level and it is one of the highest hills in the city of Kampala. Given Muyenga hill’s steep slopes and a flat peak, the hill was chosen to house the water storage tanks for Uganda National Water and Sewerage Corporation, a national body in charge of ensuring clean & safe water is accessible to all Ugandan.
The Muyenga water tanks have capacity to cater for the water demands of the residents Kampala City, Kira town council and Mukono district. The water is pumped from Lake Victoria into the Gaba Water Treatment Centre, and then transported by a well piped line up to Muyenga Tankhill, later distributed to customers through a metered system.
The Muyenga hill commands expansive views of the Kampala city towards all directions from east to west, south and north with predominant view of Lake Victoria – the largest Lake in Africa and the second widest freshwater body in the world.
Since 1960’s, Muyenga was an upscale residential area, because of its unique views and cool breezes from Lake Vctoria, however, after the Yoweri Museveni guerilla war that led to ousting of Obote II government in 1986, there followed a period of rapid, unplanned and clumsy development of the real estate on Muyenga hill. As a result, today Muyenga is an area with good mansions but with chaotic roads and poor drainage system.
Well, the hill has never lost its glory, it still owns the status of being a residential hill for the high-class, Middle class & expatriates in Uganda. Long term apartments and homes are also available for rent & sale. See Guide2Uganda properties page.
